Finally, I topped the regiment off with a fine looking pair of flags from GMB Designs. Well, one Colonel makes a fine commander for the mounted arm and the remaining four figures will make two pairs and form new Command bases at some future date! I painted the grenadier company with powdered hair to make them stand out a little more, as if they needed any more standing out. Total cost for the whole kit and kaboodle is $1,120.00 That works out to $10 per figure. To Declare Territory – Matthew 18:20 (NKJV) tell us, ” For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” By claiming territory in the name of Jesus and asking Holy Spirit to purify, to bind and cast out any and all demons and evil spirits, we establish our Spiritual boundaries. They are Minden Miniatures Prussians painted as IR24 von Schwerin Regiment and the flags are from GMB Designs. This is a classic Prussian regiment with white small clothes and red facings on the typical Prussian Blue uniform coat. They stayed on the perifery of the field, guarding the flanks and scouting the opposing army’s lines, etc. I could paint one of those damn Esterhazy hussar regiments (light blue dolman and pelisse, red breeches and yellow boots), but more likely, I will go with the Baranyay Hussar regiment (green dolman and pelisse, tan or buff breeches, and red facings) which is a spectacular uniform to behold.
The regiment has color rose or pink facings (lapels, collars and cuffs) and has an unusual distinction of not having red turnbacks – they were rose colored turnbacks to match the facing color. I have to say that I like the look of this regiment so much that I will have to add an IR18 to my own Minden Prussian army in the future. I am just about finished four Bolshevik masters (officer, 2 riflemen, lewis-gunner – all in budonovka and great coats) I’d like to add some HMGs (probably Old Glory WW1 Russian HMG teams in winter dress), commisars (Coppelstone), a sniper(?), and a field gun (again either Battle Honours or Reviresco gun with my own crew). I will also throw in two 6-pdr artillery pieces each with four crew (to be painted). I painted different colored sword knots for each of the four companies that the client will use in his Charge organization. The client happened to select one of the most colorful regiments in Frederick the Great’s army, that of IR18, whose inhaber was usually one of the hereditary princes of the House of Brandenburg. I just painted the bases dark green as a temporary expedient as the client wishes to finish the terraining of the bases himself.
The regiment is mounted on 3/4-inch square Litko bases. I have one regiment of Sachsen-Gotha Dragoons completed and only a dozen of the Portugal Curassiers. The 7th Pennsylvania Flag may have been one of the first American flags to feature stars and stripes, although it was a militia company’s flag house, not a flag of Washington’s army. One of the re-enactor units in Pennsylvania apparently use this flag for their unit. Putting the figures on the table shows me that I probably need to order another dozen Austrian cuirassiers, as I would like the regiment to have 36 figures (720 troopers at my 1:20 ratio that I use for this army). I am contemplating the need to paint Austrian hussars, noting that they generally were not used by the Austrians on battlefields. I found this nifty looking militia flag on the Revwarlist group today and like it so much that I think that I will paint a new American militia battalion, using Fife & Drum Miniatures of course, and give it this flag. The bases were not terrained at the client’s request, so I merely painted the MDF bases with a coat of Reaper Elven Green paint to give them a more finished look.
I am rebasing my ECW armies and transfering my Sudan infantry onto MDF bases to match the cavalry, command and artillery already MDFed! The infantry brigade consists of 90 foot divided into three regiments: 8th (Kings) Regt; 12th (Napier’s) Regt.; and the 42nd (Royal Black Watch) Regiment. The Brandywine flag was a banner carried by Captain Robert Wilson’s company of the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment. They are the Westmoreland County Militia in Pennsylvania. Perry Miniatures and the flags are by Flags of War. Born in battle, West Virginia came into being during the Civil War. Thereafter, the inhabership fell onto King Frederick’s nephew (and son of August Wilhelm), Friedrich Wilhelm, Crown Prince of Prussia (hence the name Prinz von Preussen) and later to be King Friedrich Wilhelm III. Frederick’s brother, August Wilhelm served as inhaber from 1742 to 1758, having died from natural causes. I like to curl my flags on a diagonal line running away from the flag staff as this presents a more natural furl of the colors (rather than using a vertical furl, which is almost impossible to achieve in real practice).
